Subject: [NCCSD Listserv] Happy new year from the NCCSD Website Committee!
Dear IV-D colleagues,
As 2017 wraps up, the NCCSD Website Committee is pausing to note its
accomplishment this year in launching the new NCCSD listserv. We believe
that the more accessible listserv and also the slowly evolving NCCSD website
are increasingly meeting our needs as a small, volunteer organization. Here
are a few reminders to help you use these tools in the new year, and a plug
for the IV-D Directors Training:
Listserv Protocol
1. Be sure to include a descriptive subject line. Emails received with
no subject line may be perceived as spam by an email filter and be deleted
before reaching the recipient's inbox.
2. Consider not replying all! This listserv default is to reply-all to
the list. Responses to many listserv questions and discussion topics are of
interest to the entire list. However, please consider the nature of your
response and whether it's better suited to reply to the sender only - none
of us needs more unnecessary emails! Examples may be me-too responses,
survey replies, questions about vendors, etc.
3. If you receive a notice that your original email was "rejected" or
you received a "delivery error," find out the reason for the rejection
before resending the message so people do not receive duplicate emails.
Often times, the error was in response to a problem with a single
recipient's email and the message was indeed sent and received by others on
the listserv.
4. Chatter, banter, and excessively long postings are inappropriate
for this list (and most other lists). Because we lose verbal and gestural
clues when communicating via email, some special considerations apply to
listservs. Avoid using all-caps (IT FEELS LIKE SHOUTING AND IS ANNOYING).
Survey Protocol
1. Simple one- or two-question surveys are easily managed via the
listserv (remember not to reply-all).
2. Use the NCCSD SurveyMonkey account for surveys with more questions.
Not only are they easier to answer, the responses are conveniently tallied
and can be archived for others to review.
3. The NCCSD Website Committee will be expanding on this in 2018, but
it's still available for use right now. Check out the Discussions/Survey
dropdown menu on the website here
<http://www.nccsd.net/discussions-surveys/> .
Use of Website for Committee Agendas, Minutes & Other Documents
1. Committee chairs have permission to upload documents on to their
committee pages on the NCCSD website.
2. Committee members, check out the site for information about your
committees.
IV-D Directors Training!
1. Please sign up for the OCSE directors training on financial
management in Washington, D.C., in February!
2. You don't have to be a new director - this is an opportunity to
build collegiality and mentor relationships with your fellow IV-D directors,
and to brush up on or consider new approaches to the financial management of
your child support program.
3. The training will focus on four areas:
a. Funding sources, including federal and state dollars
b. Making the most of Incentives
c. Understanding penalties
d. Planning your annual budget
4. OCSE will also provide an overview of federal reporting and the
impacts on performance measures and incentives.
5. The training will begin immediately following the close of the
NCSEA Policy Forum in February 2018, but you can sign up for this free
training even if you're not attending the Policy Forum.
a. Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1-5 p.m.
b. Sunday, Feb. 18 at 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
c. The training will take place at the Renaissance Washington, DC,
Downtown Hotel - the conference hotel for the NCSEA Policy Forum.
